Kiln Dried Framing

Lumber may be air or kiln dried. Natural air drying is a long process dependent on weather, so kiln drying both standardizes and speeds the process. Timber is tacked in chambers where the temperature, relative humidity and air circulation rate can be controlled. The acceptable moisture content for kiln dried framing lumber in North America is 19% or less. Kiln dried lumber is used in cooler, wetter regions of the U.S.
